MASSAGE

Picture
Over her 15 year career as a massage therapist, Jolene has developed a unique treatment style that harmoniously blends the long, rhythmic techniques of Swedish massage with the specificity of deep tissue.  Her goal is to balance grounding, intuitive touch with therapeutic, clinical resolution.  Every treatment is tailored to your specific needs – blissful full body relaxation, a series of focused treatments to address a chronic issue or an integration of these approaches.

Massage is a wonderful way to help facilitate a homecoming experience.  So often we live from the neck up - going through the day totally disconnected from our bodies, projecting thoughts into the future or ruminating on the past, rarely settling into the present moment.  Allowing space to receive massage sends a powerful message to your Self that it is valued and cared for.  Not only does massage help on a physiological level (increasing blood circulation & lymphatic drainage, decreasing inflammation) and on a mental level (by helping to reconnect body and mind in the present) but also on an emotional and spiritual level by affirming self-worth.  Massage can literally and figuratively help soften our hard edges, allowing us to be more grounded and kindly with ourselves and others.

Touch itself appears to stimulate our bodies to react in very specific ways. The right kind (ie: intentional, compassionate touch like massage) can lower blood pressure, heart rate, and cortisol/stress levels, and drive the release of a host of hormones and neuropeptides (most notably: seratonin, dopamine, oxytocin) that have been linked to positive and uplifting emotions.  These effects in turn help to strengthen the immune system, interrupt the pain cycle and help foster a sense of calm resilience.
