In light of the recent reintroduction of COVID-19 restrictions, I have decided to reinstate my online sessions.
Massage therapy is considered an essential service; therefore in office appointments are still available.
I recognize and appreciate that not all folks are comfortable/able to attend in person sessions, and as I am not currently accepting new clients, I thought this would be a good way to make grounding, nourishing treatment accessible to more people if you fall into either of these categories, or are just curious, I encourage you to book a time with me :)
At this time I am only able to offer virtual sessions on TUESDAYS. If this is not a good day for you, let me know and we can try to find a better day/time OR I CAN PRE-RECORD A SESSION SPECIFIC TO YOU... please contact me for more info!
Sessions are verbally guided and hosted on ZOOM. You do not need to download anything to your computer, a link will be sent to you prior to class. During your session, Jolene will give you verbal instructions to find the movements in your body. She will also provide guided meditation to ensure that you are fully relaxed and grounded by the end of your appointment.
Movements are gentle. None of the movements should hurt. Not only does Hanna Somatic movement help to re-educate your muscular system, you are also creating a positive feedback system - establishing that movement does NOT have to be painful. If you find discomfort in even the slightest movement there is always an option to complete the motion in your mind only.
Movements are slow. In Somatics you are working with muscular tension at its source - the brain! With the simple guided movements you will re-educate the brain to release chronic tension. The slower you go, the more benefit your body will experience.
Movements are done with awareness. Because you are working directly with the brain’s sensory-motor cortex, awareness is the key to making sure your conscious mind gets involved in the learning process. The more present you are with sensations in your body, the more benefit you can experience.
Sessions are done on a mat or supportive rug. Unless otherwise designated, sessions will be guided on the floor and will combine movements lying on the back, the stomach and also lying the sides of the body. It is helpful to have a pillow available for some supported movements as well. If any of these positions are not comfortable for you, please let Jolene know ahead of time.
Benefits are cumulative. The more you do the movements, the more change you will find in your body. You can continue private or group sessions (coming soon!) with Jolene on a regular basis and you can also integrate the movements into your daily practice to begin seeing real change in your body.
Jolene is happy to make and send you either a Zoom or audio recording of your class to refer to in the future. She will also suggest other home movements for you to do on your own.
